General Info About Adrasan

Of course, if you are travelling with a tour company then you can use the information in the brochure, but to our minds one of the newest hotel is also the best. It's only open to the independent traveller, but don't let that put you off -it's so easy to arrange.

The Grand Cengis Kaan Hotel, to give it its Sunday name, is the newest hotel, and unlike many of the others, was built according to building regulations. It is family run, by the Pinar family, and visitors are treated more like house guests than customers. Each room, of course, has a shower and WC, but each room also boasts air conditioning, a boon in high summer. And it all works, and is fitted out to high standards. Further details can be obtained by phoning the hotel on (+90) 242 883 10 12, faxing on (+90) 242 883 1008, writing to the hotel at Cavuskoy, Kumluca, Antalya, Turkey.

Where is Adrasan?
Cavus, or Adrasan as it is alternatively known to the older locals, is about 90 km. south of Antalya. If you have hired a car at Antalya airport, take the D400 for 75 km from Antalya on the Kumluca road. There is a turning on the left at this distance - signposted Cavus. Take this road and a further turn-off with a very small sign, and in 15 km you reach the village of Cavus. The bay with its hotels is another 8 km or so further on.

What is Cavus?
For those accustomed to Mediterranean beach holidays, even those described as "quiet", Cavus can come as a culture shock.

Basically, it consists of a mile-and-a-half beach, mostly sandy, in a sheltered bay, protected by headlands each end and mountains at the back. The beach is only about fifty yards deep, and at the landward side a dirt road runs the full length, deteriorating into a mule track at the southernmost end.

Eating & Dirinking
Lamb and chicken are the main meat products, with the odd salami sausage thrown in for good measure. There's not a bad restaurant in the place, but you will develop a few favourites you will tend to haunt at the expense of others. Wherever you choose to dine, you will find an enthusiastic welcome.

Lunchtimes we tended to favour the Mithat, or else took the longish hot walk to Paradise, a quiet riverside haunt where Pikret (Peter) serves simple but delicious food and cold beer whilst you dangle your feet in the stream and watch the ducks and Kingfishers. Watch out for the cats!

Of an evening, we favoured (not exclusively) the Cengis Kaan, set back 200 yards from the beach.

A typical evening meal at any establishment will cost around £5 - £10, including drinks. A 500 ml bottle of Efes Pilsen is 80p.
